The members of the Selection Committee had quite the job ahead of them once the submission period ended. There were 17 proposals, from 10 teachers spanning the globe. All entries were scored individually, with each proposal description and image group reviewed anonymously.

We asked the members of the committee to share their thoughts on the process and their experience.

“I had the pleasure of being a judge of this wonderful event!!! It made me proud to be one of the first to see the really beautiful and interesting contributions. We were also all very unanimous on which entries went to the running as our absolute favorites. Unfortunately, the number was limited and we certainly believe to have met with our selection also the taste of those who, on those two days in August will participate!!! I wish already now a lot of fun and lasting impressions in the technique – Mokume Gane.

Kind regards,

Veronique Hoffman (Fimomaus).”

“It was an honor to be selected to jury this show. The submissions were all wonderful and inspiring. It was a challenge to select from the grouping, the ones that will be offered at the Summit. I want to thank all of the artists who submitted their wonderful work.”

“When I was invited to be on the selection committee for choosing teachers and subjects for this mokume event, I was a tiny bit skeptical that there would be enough variety represented in the submissions. As it turned out, I was TICKLED to see so many different and exciting options for our sessions. It really was an embarrassment of riches; it wasn’t easy to narrow down the choices. But I know everyone participating will love the choices we made and the things they’ll learn!”

“There were so many great proposals submitted for the Polymer Art Summit! Mokume gane is such a rich and varied technique, and each proposal put a different spin on it. It was really hard to choose, but I think the Selection Committee put together a truly fantastic lineup for this event. I know the attendees are going to enjoy it…and learn a lot, too!”

Terri Powell

“Thanks to all of the wonderful artists who submitted proposals to participate in our first Polymer Summit. We had a fantastic variety of techniques and ideas to choose from. It was challenging to choose the proposals that provides the greatest variety of ideas for our Summit. We look forward to a great inspiring two days and plan for more to come next year.”
